The Chicago Air and Water Show is the largest free show of its kind. Organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the two-day event features some of the top civilian and military pilots and aircraft.

In 1959 the first show was held at Lakeshore Park. The budget was $88, and the show featured a Coast Guard Air Sea Rescue demonstration, water skiers, a water ballet, games and a diving competition.

Now in its 58th year, the show attracts millions to the shoreline.
